The Sarabande Press was started over twenty years ago by Joe Freedman. Since then it has produced beautiful letterpress limited editions, designed and typeset over a thousand different books ranging from novels to scholarly books for major museums, won awards for its books and website, and has been in the vanguard of working with digital technologies to produce lasting and wonderful graphics.

The newest phase of Sarabande was started in August, 1999. Our goal was to produce innovative dimensional graphics using new digital technologies. Our in-house equipment includes an Epson 44 inch wide printer, two computer driven lasers capable of cutting through 1/4 inch thick wood, a high resolution 8,000 dpi Scitex scanner, laminators with nontoxic aqueous coating, and, of course, hundred year old letterpress equipment.

What happens when all these technologies come together? Amazing promotional pieces, toys, and just plain fun. Our work ranges from small scale production to management and consultation of large projects. We like to think of our company as a finely tuned lab environment open to whatever discoveries come along.
