The Thaumatrope Mechanique is constructed of paper with wooden gears. Using only a two sided card the illusion of motion is created.

With only two positions on the card the viewer's brain has to resolve the puzzle of how an arm goes from up to lowered. The brain solves this problem by imagining motion.
